CLUBKINDER HISTORY

  • Eine glitzernde Diskokugel an der Decke.

    2011

Our first year we actually ‘only’ had our first clubkinder festival in December. 72 locations with 181 acts and 38 parties raised funds for the Mittagskinder Foundation together with us. The whole shebang, including a press conference, and sponsors, and an opening party at Cosma Shiva Hagen's house. We personally think that was a pretty spectacular way to start an association, thank you very much.

    2012

So of course we immediately started working on the next edition. But this time with 81 locations, 184 acts and a round-the-clock 66-hour donation festival for youth welfare projects of the GWA St. Pauli. But we also had time for our first clubkinder Diary Reading, our first Kohlfahrt around the Alster, a screening with Alex Clare and the launch of our music series ‘clubkinder Klanglabor’.

    2013

After the successful premieres of our Hamburg musicians at the altonale and Dockville, we expanded these two collaborations in 2013 – with our own stages. We raised more donations with electro parties at Baalsaal and metal formats at Kaiserkeller. We also brought basketball nights and our legendary first clubkinder Film Parody to the screen, celebrated our clubschnitt premiere and organised our first Butterfahrt.

    2014

Our club meetings in the summer became the predecessors of today's CleanUp: we all met in the park with drinks cooling in kiddie pools, had picnics, answered questions, and then cleaned up the park. The parties got a lot bigger with Uebel & Gefaehrlich, Waagenbau and Baalsaal joining, and our Kohlfahrt is very popular, not to mention our Diary Readings.

  • Gläser mit Getränken auf einem Tresen. Daneben steht eine Visitenkarte mit Infos zum Spendenclub Unterm Strich.

    2015

We once again ventured into months of work organising another clubkinder festival, and for the third edition we decided to be more concise: 10 locations, 10 of our own events, 5 media partners and all of this – like most of what we did that year – for refugees. This summer, we organised a huge 3/4 BBQ for our new friends in the Hamburg Exhibition Centre together with various restaurants, and regularly held ‘Welcome Dinners’. And oh yes, together with moondoo, we opened our donation-based club Unterm Strich on 11 September.

    2016

Wild times: with our clubkinder Klanglabor, we now regularly, almost weekly, demolished the Hard Rock Cafe and the barbarabar. Much to the delight of the artists and rock'n'roll. In addition, our Artist Talk at heliumcowboy artspace, a very quiet football game in the park next to the Bullerei and, above all, our Tintanic celebrated the launch of two extremely loud formats. And in our club Unterm Strich, we pump up the jam week after week.

    2017

This year was all about new events for Unterm Strich. Despite our night-time antics, we manged to attend the lunch flash mob at the Veddeler Fischgaststätte with hundreds of rescuers and the media. We went on our first Tweed-Ride by bike and celebrated the opening of the Schanzenzelt with a circus-themed party. We also started a very special friendship with Dominik Bloh, whose book "Unter Palmen aus Stahl" we were able to bring to the Gruenspan.

    2018

Another packed year! In February, we opened the Sonnenschein Café due to the freezing cold. The premieres of our formats ikook:ink – after two editions of our Tintanic – our new event with tattoos for a good cause, short film cinema, Clubseniors game day, bicycle salon, and action painting. And, of course, the continuation of our beloved Diary Reading, record numbers at the Clubschnitt xmas-special and, above all, our KunztKüche – 25 days, 25 cooking teams for and with Hinz&Kunzt.

    2019

This year was all about our friends from GoBanyo, the showerbus for people without shelter in Hamburg. Together with Hanseatic Help, Viva con Agua and author Dominik Bloh a.o., we supported and founded the gGmbH. Our 26th Diary Reading caused long queues in front of the Gruenspan. Also in 2019, over €13,000 was crowdfunded for our mobile vans for homeless people, an idea from students at our clubkinder schools.

    2020

What a year. Even today, it still seems surreal and there is now a before and after covid. We made ourselves useful and acted as a supporting organisation for the campaign "Kochen für Helden". We also organised our KlangVisite without further ado and started concerts in front of care facilities, distributed food to those in need and were able to keep the Sonnenschein Café open for the most part, in keeping with covid restrictions. For kids at home, we created and distributed our clubkinder Kunstkladde together with the heliumcowboy gallery and various artists. And our crowdfunding from 2019 helped us get through this year.

    2021

10 years clubkinder – and the only way to celebrate was online. But the long-awaited exhibition of the Kunstkladde was finally held. We also organised a covid-compliant event at Oberhafen with clubkinder sk8_Art. Together with the Pfund & Dollar collective and almost 50 street artists, we exhibited and auctioned off discarded skateboard decks. In return, we offered workshops for kids in designing and skating. We were also able to organise a few other events and at Unterm Strich kept going.

  • Viele Menschen in Verkleidung feiern eine Halloween Party in unserem Spendenclub namens Unterm Strich.

    2022

With all the changes caused by the pandemic and after some internal changes, we started a major phase of organisational development in 2022. Alongside this, we supported Hamburg in its search for digital mentors. Including elderly people was and is super important to us. We were also able to welcome our first Bufdi, visited Michel Abdollahi, went wild at the Millerntor Gallery and celebrated Hell-O-Ween again at Unterm Strich.

    2023

At loooong last we could have another Diary Reading! And it was packed! Also Unterm Strich got so crowded that people queued all the way to Reeperbahn! We lauched our first queer event series with the FLINTA* party ‘Sheroes’. We also released a new edition of our merchandise to go with it – we could be sheroes! We also had a new series of streetball events in Wilhelmsburg. We made a big comeback at the altonale festival, taking over the entire Ottensen market square. The Sonnenschein Café got GoBanyo as new mother and at the end of the year, we organised a tattooing event to raise money for a good cause. Jeez!

    2024

The queue at Unterm Strich continued – good for us! Plus, the Millerntor Gallery Pre-Party. With Fair Plappert, we sat down with experts to talk about democracy and participation in the year of the European elections. At the altonale, we had a little Comicslam and our "Voluntier Quiz" was born under a uniform grey Hamburg sky. At Dockville festival, we had fun doing everyone's hair because –tadaa!– our Clubschnitt is back! But there was also some bad news this year. After almost 10 years, we closed our donation-based club Unterm Strich.

2011

OKAY, I'M IN. WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

STRUCTURE

We work together in projects and reach decisions together. Our club core consists of 20 to 30 people who meet and exchange ideas every three weeks. The project team then discusses initiatives and events. The association, as the official organ and foundation, is managed by the board and there are many overlaps between members and people from the core club. You don't have to be a member of the association to get involved with us, but you are welcome to be. We see ourselves as an activist movement and work with as little hierarchy as possible.

DEPENDABLE VS. CASUAL

You are very welcome to get involved in the core of the club and work on projects or structures according to your capacities, or you can follow our channels and spontaneously sign up for initiatives and events. You can find all the information you need under get started. Working on things like communication, organisational development and the association itself need a little more commitment. Building designs, doing admissions or supporting an initiative are all possible on an ad-hoc basis. Commitment is always part of it, but you decide how long you stay involved for.

TRANSPARENCY AND NETWORK

We try to make all of this as transparent as possible and want to make it possible for everyone to get involved. We work a lot in and with our network, using the expertise and resources available there, and try to create more awareness for burning issues together. For us, it's more about the people and less about the money. But of course, donations are necessary to make things happen and to keep the association alive as a foundation. You can find more information under downloads.

SHAPING AND MOVING THINGS TOGETHER

Sharing our knowledge and resources is very important to us. Not only our association benefits from your support, but also our network and –dream big– the people of Hamburg. We are always happy to learn new things, are open to different perspectives and continue to develop together. We believe that every person who feels that they belong and feels that they can exact change, has the power to make us, and our society, happier.

SO, ARE YOU ALL PSYCHED UP AND READY TO GET INVOLVED?
